Being Australian, I was afraid of spiders once. But after learning there's only about 5 spiders that are actually deadly here and how to identify them, I've lost a lot of my fear. Well that and:

Living with a house spider in my window and watching her go about her life for half a year.

Having to sleep with a huntsman about a foot away from my face for a night. I'd wake up after about an hour of sleep, and she would still be there, perfectly still, exactly where she was before. Until she left around about 5PM when the sun rose. She didn't jump, sprint or bite. She calmly walked behind my furniture, & I never saw her again.

Hi!!! Have you heard the funnelwrb news?

A male Sydney Funnelwrb Spider - named Hercules - was found this week and is 7.9cm across!!!! The species is normally only 1-4 cm, and edpecially with him being a male makes this so cool!

He was captured and donated to a park, and is now apart of their anti-venom program :3

I'm fighting for my life to make even just two more fakemon, so let me share some random ideas that popped into my head that anyone can take for themselves.

A couple abilities are either exclusive to mega pokemon or very rare outside of mega pokemon. Aerilate, Pixilate, Refrigerate, and Parental Bond come to mind. I think a pokemon that's not Mega Kangaskhan with Parental Bond would be fun. Would Population Bomb stack with it? That would be ridiculous.

Same goes with a lot of other signature abilities like Long Reach, Merciless, Dancer, and Triage. There is a whole laundry list of moves Triage would hypothetically affect which Comfey does not get access to. A pokemon with priority Leech Life would be amazing. Something based on hirudotherapy, probably.

The remaining unused type combos are normal/bug, normal/ice, normal/rock, normal/steel, fairy/ground, fairy/fire, ice/poison, bug/dragon, and rock/ghost. I was already working on having at least one of each when my health started to get in the way of creating art.

The German name for moles is maulwurf, and they are called moldwarps in Middle English. That's begging for a mole that mauls people, or a mole that's covered in mold and fungus.

The Sydney Funnel Web Spider's scientific name is Atrax robustus and it belongs to the family Atracidae. Those sound a lot like the word atrocity, so you could make an atrocious Atrax named Atraxity or Atrocidae or something along those lines.

A lot of invertebrates are unrepresented. Orthworm was our first and only annelid. There's an entire world of polychaete worms rich with inspiration. We also do not have a sea sponge or a water bear or a velvet worm.

That Twitter post that's been circulating about pineapple skin resisting a heated metal ball. Some sort of creature with pineapple armor that's immune to fire. A knight that fights dragons, perhaps.

Can I please request a fic with Miguel O’Hara in a relationship with a Spider![Reader] [Gender Neutral] who also has fangs with venom, but it’s more potent as the Sydney Funnel Web? The [Reader] can control how lethal they want the compound of the venom to be. But for safety reasons, they always carry anti-venom with them.

[Context]: Spider![Reader] is always feeling wary about their venom and stays cautious as possible because they don’t want to accidentally hurt anyone which makes Miguel worried for their wellbeing.

can i get some spiders that DO have very strong venom? not because i want one to be mean to but because i think spiders are really cool!!

Spiders ARE really cool.

The Sydney funnel-web spider (Atrax robustus- found only near Sydney, Australia), and Brazilian wandering spiders (genus Phoneutria - found throughout Central and South America) are, as I understand it, considered the most deadly in the world.

But both of them only have something like 13-15 recorded deaths attributed to them from around the beginning of the 1900s until antivenoms were created for them in the 80s and 90s respectively, so it's not like they're out there killing people left and right.

By comparison and depending on the source, 0-1 deaths are attributed to the brown recluse in the United States. As for black widows, zero deaths have been reported since 1983, but it's hard to find reliable data from before that. Honestly it's hard to find reliable spider bite data at all because bites are often misattributed.

Either way, spiders in general are not nearly as deadly as people seem to think they are.

hii kg ppl ^_^ I haven't been able to draw something good, so no art for today possibly. Instead, I'm here to write some of my fav Huxley hcs , enjoy (?)

## 1. Felix has an interest for spiders (and isn't aware that Ted is terrified of them)

- ok so imagine that Felix has an interest for spiders and talks about them all the time to Ted. Ted doesn't want to break Felix's heart, so he doesn't say anything about his fear.

Felix: Hey Teddy, did you know that Sydney funnel-web spiders are the deadliest and the most poisonous spider in the world? It takes just about 15 minutes for a human to die after being bitten.

Ted (Terrified): ..T-that's.. that's amazing, Felix.

##2. Felix is pissy about Ted being born first. Despite being twins.

- They were born apart with 2 minutes or so, Felix is jealous of that so he uses that fact to shame Teddy. (Fun fact: This hc is canon in my childish war au.)

Felix: Well even if YOU'RE the older brother-

Ted: Felix, we are twins.

Felix: You aren't all THAT mature for a big brother-

Ted: Felix. We are TWINS.

Felix: Not by 1 minutes and 54 seconds, we aren't.

##3. Eye contact avoider and seeker.

- Felix can't make eye contact at all well while Ted stares at the person's eyeballs when talking to them. Felix (being Felix) is jealous of that, (They are both just like me.)

##4. Felix's (horrible) way of showing love

-- (Nice au) Felix has horrible communication skills and can't say that he loves his brother without cringing. So in order to avoid that, he comes with another idea. But it goes horribly.

Felix: Hey Teddy- I mean, Theo.

Ted: Yes, Felix?

Felix: I DON'T DON'T like you.

Felix's logic: Don't like x don't like = Like: Since two negatives make a positive, hah. I'm a genius.

What Ted understood: Don't like + Don't like = Hate: If he doesn't like me 2x...(two times) then he must hate me..

Anyway your question. Man. That's hard to say! I'm going through all the families I've learned in my head trying to single out the most miserable and my brain is just giving me nothing.

Maybe mayflies? I mean that's an order, not a family, but their order name (Ephemeroptera) literally translates to "short-lived wing" since they die in a day after becoming adults. But I dunno if they're particularly miserable about it. They spend that entire day fucking like crazy so. I mean.

Hmnrmnmnmh. I'm literally combing through my old classification notes trying to figure this out. Elateridae (click beetles) gave me pause since I've dealt with those irl and they're pretty pathetic once they get stuck clicking, but that is part of they defenses.

Actually TIPULIDAE. Crane flies. Some people call them mosquito hawks for some reason. Their legs are so got damn long and so barely connected that the slightest touch or gust of wind will take those damn things clean off. It's SOOO frustrating when trying to pin these things. Their legs will not stay on. You will never find a crane fly specimen with all six legs. It's impossible. That makes them miserable and pathetic To Me.

Ummmm. Yeah man I don't know. It's either that or I'm saying all male spiders of every family. Except for Sydney Funnel Web spiders ig since the males of that species are actually more dangerous than females. But that's just because we Just went over in class how male spiders have to avoid cannibalism during mating. So like. Recency bias, or whatever
